CLT e-Patashale is an umbrella of innovative initiatives - a complete ecosystem for digital learning, with development to delivery of STEM in regional languages in under-served communities

CLT’s focus has been to address the lack of access to basic needs in the context of education. Our body of work examines the ‘access’ in the context of under-served communities. CLT’s focus has been to address the lack of access to basic needs in the context of education. Our body of work examines the ‘access’ in the context of under-served communities. For example, having content/resources on the internet does not necessarily become usable for someone if you cannot afford the technology, if you have no training to use the net, and/or you do not have it in regional language. Our strategy has been to build an entire eco-system to develop relevant resources for the practitioners in their regional languages and develop low-cost mobile technology delivery models with data analytics. We have tested the Plug & Play android mini-PC device that hosts the content in multiple environments in 4,000 villages; our dashboard has tracked a lot of data to give us insights on technology enabled learning in remote areas. We have learnt that we can influence the local practitioners to be motivated and effective with good methodologies and innovative resources for teaching, and ignite aspiration for children to want to learn more. Affordability and ease of operations was a big factor for the success of the program.

Problem

India faces a severe teacher shortage problem, especially in rural areas, while they also lack subject matter expertise, specifically for STEM. While there are internet resources available, they are not aligned with regional language schools. The absence of curricula aligned learning materials proves to be a challenge. The schools are not connected since they lack infrastructure and additional teaching resources for both teachers and students.

Solution

CLT e -Patashale addresses the massive challenges children face in underserved communities. To solve a problem at scale, CLT created a Hub-Spoke model, where Master Teachers designed in-house innovative curricula aligned digital STEM pedagogy for 5th-10th in regional languages and technology teams created digital resources that go on android devices. Current reach is 2.6 million students across India. With the launch of 2 mobile apps for students and teachers we aim to have a larger scale.

Target Beneficiaries

Practitioners, students, learners in formal and informal education spaces

Mission and Vision

Mission: We connect students and practitioners to endless opportunities and new experiences of learning. Vision: Access to quality education for all.

Competitive Advantage

The educational resources available in the market usually cater to high-end private schools and customers, whereas the underserved communities have little to no access to these resources. These resources are usually non-affordable and lack diversity when it comes to regional languages. e-Patashale, on the other hand, is available in multiple regional languages, is independent of the internet and other infrastructures and is affordable in the underserved space. The model also enables data analytics for user analysis and transparency.

Planned Goals and Milestones

To increase this reach, CLT will replicate its successful model for growth by developing community-level partnerships across 10 new states in the next three years, which will mean 5 million new students will gain access to the program. CLT is targeting 10 of the most impoverished states in India where education inequity is felt the most. The existing curriculum needs to be translated into additional regional languages & apps, and outreach, training and engagement across the new states is needed.
